BARMY officials have drawn up a “baffling” list of 21 sexualities for Scots to choose from in the 2021 census.
Civil servants said terms including skoliosexual, gynephilic and demiromantic will be understood.
But Edinburgh Uni’s Dr Kath Murray said the huge list could “blur” data.
And census chiefs faced ridicule tonight after putting forward the mammoth sexuality choices for Scotland’s population survey.
Politicians and church bosses hit out at the “bewildering” raft of suggested options drawn up by civil servants.
It comes as academics raised fears the huge list — designed to help plan appropriate services for all minority groups — would merely hamper such efforts after the 2021 exercise.
Mocking the descriptions, a Tory spokesman said: “Most Scots will think it’s ridiculous to have 21 options under this question, when ‘other’ would have taken care of the vast majority. Clearly the general public wouldn’t even know where to begin with some of these descriptions. People will be baffled.”
Sexual orientation will be featured for the first time in the census, which takes place every ten years. Continue reading…
